MIIT Assigns Chinese Telcos IoT Phone Number Prefixes

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently issued its tenth telecommunications number resource allocation update of 2017, which includes assignments of Internet of Things phone numbers to each of China's three major telecommunications operators.

Telecom operator China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) allotment includes numbers in the 148(0-9) segment (dedicated for IoT) and 1440(0-9) prefix range (general IoT numbers); China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has been assigned numbers in the 1410(0-9) range (general IoT); and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has been assigned numbers in the 146(0-9) prefix range (dedicated for IoT).
