Shanghai-based augmented reality content and product developer VisionStar Information Technology has announced the completion of RMB 100 mln in Series A+ funding from online automobile information portal operator Autohome (NYSE: ATHM).
Established in 2012, VisionStar operates mobile augmented reality (AR) content platform Sight Plus, and also provides an open AR platform which integrates EasyAR development tools with Sight Plus' content. The open platform provides 30,000 developers with EasyAR's software development kit (SDK) and cloud services, and generates revenue through licensing and computing fees. The Sight Plus platform is a combination of both a web-based AR editor and a consumer-oriented Sight Plus app.
Sight Plus' second major business line involves providing AR solutions across various industries, which includes its own proprietary AR content 3D rendering engine, script engine, and cloud recognition software. Sight Plus provides businesses with AR functionality integration in mobile applications, content delivery, and content customization.
Autohome marketing VP Zhang Jingyu said that both parties can collaborate more deeply on AR applications in the automotive industry. In addition to AR garages and AR motor shows, Autohome plans to integrate AR technology in both online and offline environments, such as an AR sporting arena navigation tool.
