Koubei, Alipay Unveil Smart Restaurant Touchscreen Tabletop

Online and mobile local life services platform Koubei, operated by Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) subsidiary Koukou Xiangchuan Network Technology, recently launched a new "Smart Restaurant of the Future" concept product. Developed in partnership with Alibaba Group's financial services affiliate Ant Financial and the augmented reality development team at third-party payment processor Alipay, the restaurant concept includes a super-large touchscreen tabletop that offers functions includes food ordering, personalized recommendations, and games.
After customers take their seats at the table, the system will automatically recognize their identity. Users can touch the table lightly or use hand gestures to open up a smart food-ordering interface, and the system will automatically recommend dishes based on their previous order history. When food arrives at the table the screen will display interactive augmented reality effects. After eating, users can simply leave their table and their Alipay account will be charged for their order automatically.
Feng Xi, the product manager supervising the Smart Restaurant of the Future product, said that Koubei is not focused on entering the hardware business. Instead, the product is intended to demonstrate Koubei's mature information technologies for restaurant operators, including its self-ordering and automatic payment technologies.
