Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app has announced the start of closed beta testing of an advertising component for in-app applets as well as upgrades to basic functions, including a newly added applet quick-creation interface, applet plugin management interface, and support to authorize third-party platform plugins.
Applet developers qualified for the beta testing can find the module entry point in the backend under "traffic master." Once activated, develops can build advertising units and use the ad component to dynamically configure ad placements on the applet page. The applet advertising feature is not yet fully open.
All types of ads already opened in WeChat for advertisers, such as brand campaign promotions, e-commerce promotions, official account promotions, and app promotions, will be supported in applet ad resource placement.
