Alibaba Launches AI Program That Transforms Text and Images to Video

The Paper, 4/22/18

Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) announced at the UCAN User Experience Design Forum the creation of an artificial intelligence (AI) program that can automatically generate short videos using content from text and images. Aliwood, as the AI is called, was developed by Alibaba's human-computer natural interaction laboratory, Alibaba-funded DAMO Institute's robot smart technology lab, and Zhejiang University.

Given the address of a product detail's page, Aliwood can analyze multiple pieces of product information and turn the static content into a short video in only a minute.

The development team incorporated an "emotional calculation" ability during R&D to build an emotional model for selection of accompanying music to better capture the feelings of the audience.
