Tianjin Taps Alibaba for New Retail and Smart City Initiatives
Chengshi Kuaibao, 5/16/18
Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) has signed several partnership agreements with the Tianjin Municipal Government, including three main components: construction of a new retail industry, promotion of Alibaba's "City Brain" smart city management project, and application of a "Regional Economy Brain" to analyze enterprise operations in Tianjin's Jinnan District. Alibaba will launch 30 branches of its O2O fresh food e-commerce brand Hema Xiansheng in Tianjin over the next three years.
Editor's Note: Alibaba's "City Brain" is a platform for smart city system management first announced at Alibaba's 2016 Computing Conference. The platform aims to provide real time analysis and smart adjustment to enhance vehicular traffic flows. Alibaba's "Regional Economy Brain," first announced in December 2017, is a platform designed to help governments fully analyze the operating circumstances of enterprises. The regional economy brain has enterprise-facing and government-facing client software. Artificial intelligence helps governments more effectively govern companies and the "panoramic insight" feature provides in-depth macro- and micro-economic analysis for governments to understand the regional economy and business growth. An enterprise portrait feature can evaluate a company fairly and objectively across several dimensions. The "radar recruitment" feature helps governments precisely target companies to recruit. A "risk control radar" feature can provide timely detection and control of risk for the economic region or companies. The business-facing side provides companies with a cloud computing information platform to report their data to the government.
