Beijng-based Bytedance Technology, operator of online and mobile news platform Today's Headlines, has launched an online children's English-language education brand "Gogokid."
Gogokid pairs children aged 4-12 with North American teachers in 1-on-1 classes using the Common Core State Standards. The platform also has Chinese teachers with English curriculum standards set by China's Ministry of Education.
The foreign teacher classes are arranged such that they begin with 5 minutes of preparation, then offer 25 minutes of one-on-one interaction with the foreign teacher, and end with 15 minutes of after-class review. The curriculum is designed to train literature, math, and science, and is divided into eight levels of ability.
Gogokid's key selling point is its "smart learning system," which builds a model of the student's capabilities based on an English proficiency test. The system also creates teaching models for its teachers to optimally match students and teachers. Gogokid detects micro-expressions to gauge the student's studying status and builds a dedicated database for each student from the after-class student reports and homework system.
Gogokid has not begun an ad campaign yet but is already selling courses.
Editor's Note: According to the certificate on Gogokid's official account on Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app, the operating entity is Beijing Bite Zhixue. Bite Zhixue has RMB 10 mln in registered capital and is an indirectly wholly owned subsidiary of Bytedance Technology via intermediary company Beijing Shanxing Technology.
