Alibaba Developing Connected-Car Facial Recognition Application

Tencent Tech, 6/05/18

Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) is currently researching implementation applications for in-vehicle facial recognition for its AliOS operating system. Human facial recognition will become part of AliOS's system level features in the future.

AliOS will merge car facial recognition technology in with the account system. A camera inside the vehicle will capture the driver's face to create a "FACE ID" and driver account, which can be associated with behavioral preferences and driving records. The driver account can provide personalized services such as playlists, stored radio stations, daily navigation routes, and seat and mirror settings.

If the system detects a suspicious individual behind the wheel, it can contact the police and store facial information of the suspect to the cloud. AliOS will also research features such as driver fatigue detection and keyless entry for its in-car facial recognition system.
