WeChat Launches Product Search Function Linked to JD.com

DoNews, 6/13/18

Chinese internet conglomerate Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app has launched a product search function. The new function allows users to enter specific into the WeChat homepage's search box and have search results appear under a sub-menu labeled "items" which direct users to the corresponding purchase page of Chinese B2C e-commerce platform JD.com's (Nasdaq: JD) WeChat applet.

For example, if a user searches this channel for the keyword "lipstick," the results will display various brands of lipstick, along with the product name, price, rating and whether it carries the "JD Authentic Guarantee" logo. After clicking on the item, users are directed to the corresponding purchase page of the JD applet.

Previously, in July last year, WeChat invited e-commerce companies to participate in an e-commerce search project. Users entered product names in the search interface, and the search list would directly present associated companies' applets as the search results.
