China's MIIT Releases May 2019 Telecom Statistics; 4G Penetration Nears 77%

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its May 2019 national telecom industry statistics.

As of the end of May 2019, China's total number of 4G mobile service subscribers reached almost 1.219 bln, comprising 76.7% of the country's total mobile service subscribers, while the total 3G subscriber base fell to just under 133 mln, or 8.4% of the total mobile subscriber base.
As of the end of May 2019, China's penetration of mobile phone internet users among mobile internet users was 81.5%.
China's total number of IPTV subscribers (registered accounts) increased to reach 278 mln as of the end of May 2019.
In calculating the fixed-line telephone and mobile subscriber penetration rates in the table above, the MIIT used China's 2018 year-end population size.
