Shanghai Leads China with 89% 4G Penetration Among Mobile Subs in May 2019

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of May 2019. China finished the month with over 192 mln fixed-line subs and slightly more than 1.589 bln mobile subs.
Southern China's Guangdong was the province with the greatest number of mobile subs at almost 168 mln, or approximately 10.5% of the total, followed by Shandong with just over 107 mln, or roughly 6.7%.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 4G users among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Shanghai with 89.0%, followed by Guangdong (83.8%), Beijing (81.7%), Jiangsu (80.5%), and Zhejiang (80.4%). The provinces with the lowest 4G penetration were Xinjiang (24.9%), Heilongjiang (71.3%), Jilin (72.0%), Sichuan (72.1%), and Shandong (72.4%).
