Shanghai Leads China with 4G Penetration Rate of 88% in March 2020

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of March 2020. China finished the month with just under 190 mln fixed-line subs and nearly 1.590 bln mobile subs.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 4G users among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Shanghai with 88.3%, followed by Guangdong (87.7%), Tibet (84.2%), Henan (83.9%), and Qinghai (83.0%). The provinces with the lowest 4G penetration were Xinjiang (55.6%), Shandong (75.5%), Yunnan (75.7%), Sichuan (77.1%), and Heilongjiang (77.2%). The MIIT did not break out figures for 5G subscriber totals or penetration rates.
