China's Telecom Industry Revenues Up 8.0% YoY in Jan-Nov 2022

Mainland China's telecom industry revenues reached RMB 1.450 trln in the first 11 months of 2022, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.0%, according to figures newly released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Wireline Broadband Service Revenue Grew Steadily
From January to November, China's three main telecom operators - China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom - generated combined wireline broadband service revenues of RMB 218.3 bln, up 7.4% YoY, accounting for 15.1% of total telecom industry revenues, and driving growth of telecom industry revenues by 1.1 percentage points.
Mobile Data Traffic Revenue Grew Slowly
From January to November, China's three main telecom operators generated combined mobile data traffic revenues of RMB 588.2 bln, up just 0.5% YoY, accounting for 40.6% of telecom industry revenues, and driving growth of total telecom industry revenues by 0.2 percentage points.
Emerging Services Revenue Grew Rapidly
From January to November, China's three main telecom operators generated combined revenues from emerging services - such as such as IPTV, internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things - of RMB 281.1 bln, up 32.6% YoY, accounting for 19.4% of total telecom industry revenues, and driving growth of telecom industry revenues by 5.1 percentage points. Among these services, cloud computing and big data revenues grew by 124.8% and 60.5% YoY, respectively, data center service revenues increased by 12.6% YoY, and Internet of Things service revenues increased by 24% YoY.
Mobile Voice Service Revenue Turned from Negative to Positive
From January to November, China's three main telecom operators generated combined fixed voice service revenues of RMB 18.83 bln, down 8.9% YoY, and mobile voice service revenues of RMB 107 bln, up 0.4% YoY (reversing the negative growth trend from January to October). Fixed and mobile voice service revenues combined accounted for 8.7% of total telecom industry revenues, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year.
5G Network Construction Advancing Steadily
As of the end of November, China's total number of 5G base stations reached 2.287 mln, a net increase of 862,000 from the end of the previous year, accounting for 21.1% of China's total number of mobile base stations, an increase of 6.8 percentage points from the end of the previous year.
