MIIT Releases China's Feb 2023 Fixed-Line, Mobile User Totals by Province

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of February 2023. China finished the month with over 178 mln fixed-line subs and more than 1.695 bln mobile subs. The February totals represent a net decrease of 0.91 mln fixed-line subs and net increase of 11.88 mln mobile subs compared to the end of December 2022.
Among total mobile subs, 5G handset subs accounted for 592.0 mln, or 34.9%.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Guangdong with 39.7%, followed by Ningxia (39.7%), Zhejiang (38.5%), Hainan (38.5%), and Beijing (37.8%). The provinces with the lowest 5G handset sub penetration were Tibet (29.6%), Xinjiang (30.4%), Liaoning (30.7%), Shanghai (31.7%), and Jilin (32.0%).
The five provinces accounting for the greatest proportion of China's total 5G handset subs, or 36.8% combined, were Guangdong (11.3%), Henan (6.6%), Jiangsu (6.5%), Shandong (6.4%), and Zhejiang (5.9%).
