MIIT Releases China's Nov 2023 Fixed-Line, Mobile User Totals by Province

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of November 2023. China finished the month with just over 174 mln fixed-line subs and over 1.726 bln mobile subs. The November totals represent a net decrease of 5.37 mln fixed-line subs and net increase of 42.69 mln mobile subs compared to the end of December 2022.
Among total mobile subs, 5G handset subs accounted for 771.1 mln, or 44.7%, representing a net increase of 228.85 mln 5G handset subs since the end of 2022.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Qinghai with 51.3%, followed by Ningxia (51.0%), Hainan (49.2%), Guangdong (48.8%), and Zhejiang (47.2%). The five provinces with the lowest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Shanghai (39.1%), Liaoning (40.4%), Guangxi (41.2%), Heilongjiang (42.0%), and Shandong (42.0%).
The five provinces accounting for the greatest proportion of China's total 5G handset subs, or 36.2% combined, were Guangdong (10.9%), Henan (6.6%), Shandong (6.5%), Jiangsu (6.4%), and Zhejiang (5.7%).
