MIIT: China Adds 1.7 Mln Mobile Subscribers in April 2026

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its national telecom industry statistics for the month of April 2026, during which China's total number of mobile phone subscribers rose to nearly 1.838 bln, representing a net increase of approximately 1.72 mln month-on-month. Among this total, China's total number of 5G mobile phone subscribers reached 1.262 bln, up 8.05 mln month-on-month, and comprising 68.7% of China's total mobile phone subscriber base, up 0.4 percentage points month-on-month and 2.8 percentage points since the end of 2025. China's total number of mobile internet subscribers increased to nearly 1.624 bln, up approximately 0.68 mln month-on-month.
China's total number of cellular IOT connections reached nearly 2.976 bln by the end of April 2026, up approximately 28.09 mln month-on-month.
As of the end of April 2026, China's total number of deployed 5G base stations reached 5.009 mln, up by approximately 51,000 month-on-month.
China's total number of wireline broadband accounts reached over 698 mln by the end of April 2026, up approximately 1.43 mln month-on-month. Among these, accounts providing speeds of 100 Mbps or faster comprised 667 mln, or 95.5%; and accounts providing speeds of 1,000 Mbps or faster comprised nearly 253 mln, or 36.2%, up 14.25 mln month-on-month.
China's total number of internet TV (IPTV and OTT) subscribers dropped to just under 410 mln by the end of April 2026, representing a net decrease of approximately 0.43 mln month-on-month.
