Tencent Tech, 5/25/11
On May 20, State Grid Information & Telecommunication, a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), and Beijing-based cloud services provider Beijing Skycloud Technology signed a strategic partnership framework agreement in Beijing. Under the agreement, the two companies will partner on joint implementation of cloud computing infrastructure and on R&D and design for products and services including cloud servers, cloud storage, and cloud terminals. The two companies will also cooperate on design and development of cloud computing software, including operating systems and cloud storage software, and will apply for and implement national technology programs related to cloud computing. State Grid Information & Telecommunication and Skycloud will also partner in the development, protection, and management of cloud computing-related IPR.
Liu Jianming, general manager of State Grid Information & Telecommunication, said that the massive amounts of data generated by its parent company's smart power grids meant that only a powerful, large-scale cloud computing platform would be able to provide reliable technical support for them.
