Shen Guoding, VP of Shanghai-based online game developer and operator The9 (Nasdaq: NCTY), has announced that The9 launched Juzi.cn today after a period of low-key beta testing. Juzi is an ad-supported mobile virtual currency system, similar to Tapjoy abroad, allowing advertisers to support free-to-play games and applications for users. Unlike Tapjoy, Juzi is based on the Android platform rather than iOS.
The model for Juzi is as follows: advertisers sponsor Juzi, application developers provide services, and users who click on ads are rewarded with sponsored "Juzi" ("tangerine") coins redeemable for applications. Advertisers will pay developers cash, of which The9 takes a cut.
Shen also revealed that Juzi would work with mobile applications in all categories, rather than just with games.
