YLMF to Sell Authorized Copies of Windows 7

DoNews, 12/23/11

Dongguan-based operating system developer and Internet portal operator YLMF Computer Technology quietly launched Xp.com today, a new platform through which it will sell licensed copies of the Windows 7 operating system. YLMF previously established itself by offering downloads of a customized version of the Windows XP operating system, a service it announced it would no longer operate in late 2008, following which the company began releasing its own Windows XP-lookalike open source Linux-based operating system.

Industry sources have said that Microsoft has chosen YLMF as its sole authorized packager in China, and that the company will now handle both packaging and sales of the Windows 7 operating system in mainland China.

Editor's Note: DoNews reported later that Microsoft China issued a statement through its official microblog today in response to the above news, writing that "Microsoft China has never held any discussions with YLMF regarding exclusive packaging rights for Windows 7."
