Rumor: China Unicom Orders 3 Mln Xiaomi Smartphones

According to its supply contract with Beijing-based Android handset developer Xiaomi, China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) will procure 3 mln Xiaomi smartphones at RMB 1,900 per unit and guarantee to sell 1 mln, with 150,000 units in the first shipment, according to Chinese national wholesale handset distributor Shenzhen Aisidi Industry (002416.SZ).

China Unicom and Xiaomi released the operator-customized MI-ONE smartphone on December 20, 2011, priced at RMB 2,699. At the time, the two companies said they planned to cooperate to sell millions of handset units.
