Rumor: Taobao Launches Third Pinterest Clone

DoNews, 4/09/12

According to industry insiders, Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao is planning on launching a third Pinterest-like service called Wantu (loosely translated as "Naughty Rabbit"). Wantu is best classified as a photo sharing and bookmarking website. Users can log in using their Taobao account credentials.

Editor's Note: According to Wantu's About Us page, the service will officially start on April 11, 2012. In mid-March Taobao's e-commerce search engine ETao, in partnership with Hangzhou-based e-commerce SNS Mogujie, launched a co-developed Pinterest clone called "ETao Discover," and in late March Taobao also began testing another Pinterest clone called Taobao Circles.
