iQiyi Preps TV Product, PPS Integration Near Complete

Sina Tech, 7/05/13

Tang Xing, CTO at Chinese internet firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) online video subsidiary iQiyi, announced recently that the site has entered into the final stages of content delivery network (CDN) and P2P service integration and optimization with Baidu's recently acquired P2P video service provider PPS (PPStream). Integration should be completed by the end of this summer and succeed in lowering bandwidth costs for both sites.

Tang also announced that iQiyi will be releasing an internet TV product in the near future, commenting that the new offering from the company will not be a hardware product, but a content and technology focused product. The product is expected to be in line with iQiyi's PC strategy of providing ad-supported free content to users.

Tang did not respond to rumors that iQiyi will be announcing a TV hardware product this August.
