Highway Rest Stop Food Delivery Platform 'Gourmet Express' Solicits Angel Funding
Pencil News, 2/27/18
Beijing-based Gaodian Technology, operator of mobile food delivery platform for expressway service areas Meiwei Gaosu (literally "Gourmet Express"), has revealed that it received RMB 2 mln in seed funding in January 2017, and is now seeking angel funding.
Gourmet Express, established in early 2017, is a takeout delivery platform aimed specifically at service areas and rest stops near expressways. Users can enter a destination on the service's public account on Tencent's WeChat mobile messaging app, and the system will display expressway service areas along the user's route which provide takeout delivery services. Users can then choose a service area and arrival time and place their order. The system back-end then arranges delivery personnel to deliver the meal to the specified service area at the appointed time.
Gourmet Express's first operating location is the Baige Service Area situated on Beijing's 6th Ring Road. The platform has yet to establish a partnership with other merchants, so all orders are purchased from a restaurant and delivered independently by Gourmet Express staff. Deliveries can be made within about 30 minutes.
Currently, the platform takes in 100 orders a month, and an average single order is around RMB 50. There are roughly 20 restaurants from which users can order, mainly brands such as KFC, McDonald's, and Pizza Hut.
