Shanghai Leads China with 89.5% 4G Penetration Among Mobile Subs in March 2019

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of March 2019. China finished the month with almost 193 mln fixed-line subs and nearly 1.597 bln mobile subs.
Southern China's Guangdong was the province with the greatest number of mobile subs at almost 171 mln, or approximately 10.7% of the total, followed by Shandong with close to 107 mln, or roughly 6.7%.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 4G users among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Shanghai with 89.5%, followed by Guangdong (81.3%), Beijing (81.2%), Fujian (80.3%), and Henan (79.3%); Hainan, which had the fifth highest 4G penetration at the end of February, fell to the #7 slot in March with 78.6%, behind Zhejiang (79.2%). The provinces with the lowest 4G penetration were Xinjiang (21.9%), Heilongjiang (69.0%), Jilin (70.7%), Chongqing (71.2%), and Shandong (71.3%).
