China's MIIT Releases Aug 2020 Telecom Statistics; Mobile Subscriber Base Up Just 1 Mln

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its national telecom industry statistics for the month of August 2020. China's total number of mobile service subscribers increased by just 0.96 mln during the period to exceed 1.598 bln.

As of the end of August 2020, China's total number of 4G mobile service subscribers had increased to over 1.290 bln, comprising 80.7% of the country's total mobile service subscriber base.
In calculating the figures for change since the end of 2019, the MIIT used its 2019 year-end final accounts data.
In calculating the fixed-line telephone and mobile subscriber penetration rates in the table above, the MIIT used China's 2019 year-end population size.
