Alibaba Sports Changes Name to Orange Lion Sports

21st Century Business Herald, 6/24/22

Alibaba Sports, the sport unit of Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA; 9988.HK), has rebranded as Orange Lion Sports.

A reporter from 21st Century Business Herald learned that Alibaba Sports employees received a letter from CEO Mu Yang this afternoon, stating that the company held a shareholders' meeting, at which it passed a resolution to change the company name and to have Mu also serve as chairman of the company.

According to insiders, Mu also mentioned in an earlier internal email that thanks to "traffic expansion and refined operations of the online business," the company's operating profit and total revenue in the past fiscal year both grew over 150% year-on-year, despite the external challenges faced by the entire industry.

Mu, in an interview with the 21st Century Business Herald today, confirmed the company name change.
