Alibaba's Cainiao to Build Intelligent Delivery Distribution Centers in Pakistan
Cainiao, 6/17/22
Cainiao, the logistics unit of Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA; 9988.HK), announced today in a WeChat post that it plans to build two intelligent delivery distribution centers in Pakistan.
According to the post, by the end of September this year, Cainiao will build two intelligent delivery distribution centers for Alibaba-owned South Asian e-commerce platform Daraz in Karachi and Lahore.
The first batch of core equipment and parts required for the construction of the distribution centers was shipped from Shanghai today.
At present, Cainiao has built hundreds of automated distribution centers of different sizes in China. Overseas, Cainiao has also built 9 self-operated national distribution centers in Europe, Asia, America and other places. The Pakistan project will be Cainiao's first deeply integrated distribution project in South Asia.
Insufficient logistics infrastructure in the region has been a bottleneck for more rapid e-commerce growth, so it is hoped that the new distribution center may help alleviate the pressure on Daraz's logistics.
Before last year's November 11 Singles Day shopping festival, Cainiao built the largest automated warehouse in Southeast Asia for Flash Express, Thailand's largest courier company by order volume, helping it gain a strong edge in a fiercely competitive market.
