Jiading to Use Wireless Networks to Manage Transit Info

China Business News, 12/03/08

Shanghai's Jiading district is currently accelerating the pace of installation of public transport information systems, with system trials likely to begin by the end of the year. After first-phase installations are complete, the system will be used to provide real-time transit information through electronic signs at bus stops. The signs will show passengers who are waiting at the bus stop information such as the distance and time remaining for a bus to reach the station, as well as electronic maps of the near vicinity. In the future, television and video advertisements will also be displayed. The system will use Jiading's "Wireless City" network to transmit the information.

The head of the passenger management division at the Jiading Traffic Management Bureau also stated that the district's "Wireless City" network platform could be used to send security and surveillance images from inside buses and terminal stations to a security monitoring center.
