Huawei to Increase Handset Models, Sales

Chinese telecom equipment and handset manufacturer Huawei has announced plans to introduce several new handset models based on Google's Android mobile phone operating platform both this year and next. It plans to release the first of these, which it unveiled today at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in Q3 2009. The company also plans to introduce a phone using LTE technology either at the end of this year, or at the beginning of next year. Edward Chen, head of Huawei's devices unit, mentioned that the company plans to sell 40-45 mln handsets in 2009, compared to 33 mln in 2008.
