China Mobile Begins IMS Equipment Procurement

Communications Weekly, 11/16/09

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) recently started accepting bids for its IP multimedia systems (IMS) equipment procurement. Tenders will cover core network equipment, service platforms, connection testing equipment, and terminals. The five major equipment providers who participated in earlier China Mobile IMS equipment testing - ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Huawei, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), and Nokia Siemens Networks - will all bid.

China Mobile may adopt per-province or per-region IMS operations models to provide a combination of fixed and mobile services to subscribers; each province will make adjustments to its operations plans as necessary based on the customization needs of subscribers.
