Linktone Records Q3 2009 Net Profit of USD 700K
PR Newswire, 12/01/09
Chinese wireless value-added services provider Linktone (Nasdaq: LTON) has announced its unaudited financial results for Q3 2009, with gross revenues reaching USD 13.8 mln, down 16.9% year-on-year and down 24.6% quarter-on-quarter.
Net income for the quarter came to USD 0.7 mln, down 22.3% from USD 0.9 mln in Q2 2009, but up from a net loss of USD 2.3 mln in Q3 2008.
Gross revenue from data-related services was USD 7.8 mln, down 26.4% compared with USD 10.6 mln for Q2 2009. The sequential decrease in Linktone's data-related services revenue was primarily attributable to decreased SMS services revenue, after stricter policies reduced the total number of revenue sharing projects with mobile phone manufacturers. The decrease also resulted from a lower level of revenue generation from Linktone's promotional activities conducted via media channels. Broken down by category, data-related gross revenues came from SMS services (USD 7.4 mln), MMS services (USD 0.1 mln), and WAP and Java gaming services (USD 0.3 mln).
Gross revenue from audio-related services accounted for USD 4.9 mln of total revenues, down 31% compared with USD 7.1 mln for Q2 2009. The sequential decrease was primarily due to a decrease in IVR revenue due to decreased returns from media advertising during the quarter. Audio-related revenues included IVR services (USD 3.3 mln) and Color Ring-Back Tone (CRBT) services (USD 1.6 mln).
Gross revenue from other sources was USD 1.1 mln, including a fee of USD 0.7 mln for technical advisory services provided to an Indonesian company for the period from March to September 2009.
The company estimates Q4 2009 gross revenue will be approximately USD 14 mln to USD 15 mln.
