Tencent Tech, 1/08/10

According to informed sources, China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) first tender for FTTx equipment procurement was issued in December, marking the operator's entry into fixed-line broadband. The tender includes purchases for both GPON and EPON network technologies. China Mobile is putting equal weight on both technologies, but with a preference toward GPON. China Mobile will lay upwards of 3 mln cables during the first quarter of 2010. Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Fiberhome (600498.SH), ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), and Motorola are all competing for a share of the tender.
