CBC Pushes CMMB Pre-Installation on Notebooks

Netease Tech, 3/15/10

Sun Chaohui, general manager of China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), China's national operator of CMMB mobile TV, said on March 12 that it will begin cooperating with manufacturers this year to pre-install CMMB modules in PCs, allowing users to watch CMMB broadcasts on their notebooks and netbooks, in addition to handsets and MP4 terminals.

CBC, together with PC industry representatives, launched the CMMB-PC Industry Cooperation Coalition in Beijing on March 12. The coalition includes Intel, Microsoft, Lenovo (0992.HK), HP, Dell, Haier, Founder (600601.SH) and Tsinghua Tongfang (600100.SH).

Sun said that, speaking objectively, CMMB programming cannot currently satisfy the wide interests of all users, and given its differences from traditional TV content, CBC is pursuing a new and innovative business model.
