Sina Microblog to Offer Value-Added Services

Xinhuanet, 3/16/10

Peng Shaobin, VP and head of Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) products division, recently confirmed Sina's microblogging platform will offer value-added services in order to generate revenue. Although Sina microblog has been opened to plugins from third-party developers, Peng said it is not likely to offer mini-games such as Happy Farm or Parking Wars. Sina microblog will generate revenue through two streams: advertising, and soon-to-be-released value-added services.

Average daily posts on Sina microblog have increased by approximately 50% month-on-month, and will reach 10 mln by year-end at the current rate of growth.
