Linktone Q4 2009 Net Loss Nears USD 2 Mln

Chinese wireless value-added services provider Linktone (Nasdaq: LTON) has announced its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009, with total revenues for Q4 2009 reaching USD 15.4 mln, down 20.6% year-on-year and up 11.6% quarter-on-quarter. Total revenues for FY 2009 were USD 62.2 mln, down 7.2% YoY from USD 67 mln in 2008.
Linktone recorded a net loss of USD 1.9 mln for Q4 2009, compared to net income of USD 0.6 mln in Q4 2008 and net income of USD 0.7 mln in Q3 2009. The loss reflected the impact of an impairment provision to goodwill for the casual games business. Net income for FY 2009 reached USD 0.1 mln compared with a net loss of USD 16.5 mln in 2008.
Data-related services revenue in Q4 2009 was USD 9.5 mln, representing 62% of gross revenues, compared with USD 7.8 mln or 57% of gross revenues for Q3 2009. The sequential increase in Linktone's data-related services revenue was primarily attributable to an improved operating environment and a stabilized team following the previously reported management and staff changes in June and the third quarter of 2009. Data-related services revenue for Q4 2009 breaks down as follows: SMS revenue was USD 8.9 mln; MMS revenue was USD 0.2 mln; WAP and Java gaming revenue was USD 0.4 million.
Audio-related services accounted for 37% of gross revenues in Q4 2009, or USD 5.7 mln, compared with 36% of gross revenues, or USD 4.9 mln, for Q3 2009. The sequential increase in Linktone's audio-related services revenue was primarily attributable to an improved operating environment and a stabilized team following the previously reported management and staff changes in June and the third quarter of 2009.
Audio-related service revenue for Q4 2009 breaks down as follows: IVR revenue was USD 4.2 mln; CRBT revenue was USD 1.5 mln for Q4 2009, compared with USD 1.6 mln Q3 2009.
Other services were insignificant in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The company estimates Q1 2010 gross revenue will be approximately USD 14 mln to USD 15 mln.
