Amoi Successor Xialang Launches New Handsets and Brand

Tencent Tech, 4/08/10

Newly established handset manufacturer Xialang held a press conference in Shanghai today for the official launch of its Namo handset brand, along with four 2.5G and six 3G products. Chairman Zhang Guotian said Xialang will focus on 2.5G handsets in the first half of 2010, followed by smartphones and 3G handsets in the third and fourth quarters, in an attempt to gain a more than 1% share of the mid-range and high-end handset market. Xialang aims to achieve over 200,000 units in monthly sales and 3 mln units in annual sales volume within three years, and to become one of the top five mid-range and high-end handset brands.

Zhang was formerly assistant to the president of Amoi Electronics and GM responsible for domestic sales and handset exports. Zhang purchased a controlling interest in Amoi Electronics Development, a Shanghai-based subsidiary, when Amoi liquidated its assets.
