Heilongjiang Unicom Transfers PHS Users to Mobile Networks

People's Posts and Telecommunications News, 5/20/10

Heilongjiang Unicom has officially launched a program to transfer its PHS subscribers to its 2G or 3G mobile networks, allowing users to retain their PHS number for incoming and outgoing calls, with some restrictions.

The plan operates as follows:

First, customers making calls or sending point-to-point SMS messages from within Heilongjiang province will be able to use their original PHS number, which will be displayed to the receiving party.

Second, an 11-digit mobile number will be shown for customers making calls when roaming outside of the province, while point-to-point SMS messages sent when roaming will still use their original PHS number.

Third, customers will be able to receive all calls and SMS messages made to either their old PHS or new mobile number from other users regardless of location.

Fourth, all value-added services and other subscriptions must use the new 11-digit mobile number.
