Zynga Acquires Chinese Social Game Developer XPD Media

U.S.-based social game developer Zynga has announced the acquisition of Beijing-based social game developer XPD Media, but has not yet disclosed the terms of the deal. Zynga announced it will establish a new studio in Beijing, and is locally recruiting a CTO, HR manager and software engineers.

XPD Media has developed a number of products for the global social gaming market on platforms such as Facebook. XPD CEO Robin Chan, a former angel investor in Twitter and mobile payment platform Square, will become Zinga's GM of Business Operations for the Asia Region. XPD Media co-founder Andy Tian, one of Google China's first employees, will run the Beijing studio. XPD Media's forty employees will be folded into Zynga and will focus on project and product development.
