Shanghai Knockoff Handset Vendors Under Investigation

Chinese semiconductor specialist Wang Yanhui has confirmed to reporters the details of his recent blog posting, in which he said that Suzhou-based mobile phone circuit board provider Hualong was under investigation by the Shanghai Customs for manufacturing knock-off copycat handsets and evading taxes. Wang reported that a number of Shanghai-based handset design companies had become involved in the investigation.
The deputy GM for hardware at a major Shanghai-based handset design company confirmed that several handset design companies have come under investigation.
