Rumor: China Unicom UPhone Due in November

CWW, 9/16/10

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) will release its UniPlus mobile OS UPhone in November, according to a source at the operator, followed by a second UPhone in December, with both widely available before the end of the year.

China Unicom has already developed software and hardware for the UPhone in collaboration with at least three handset manufacturers. Some media reports claim that the UniPlus mobile OS is comparatively better than China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) OMS, the Android variant used for OPhones.
