MIIT Releases Jan-August 2010 Electronics & IT Industry Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics for the electronics and IT industry for the January to August period, with total IT industry value and sales output up 19% YoY, up 2.4 percentage points compared to growth in the same period last year. Total sales output value for the first eight months of 2010 rose 27.3% YoY to RMB 3.92 trln, up 24.1% compared to the same period in 2008.

For the first eight months of 2010, total color TV set industry production rose 8.6% YoY to reach 71.33 mln units, including LCD TV set production up 35% YoY and accounting for 69% of all units; microcomputer production rose 25.8% YoY to 143.39 mln units, with notebook production up 28.9% YoY and accounting for 82% of all units. Integrated circuit production rose 43.7% YoY to 4.19 bln units. For telecommunications products, handset production was up 36% YoY to reach 546.95 mln units, while production of network switches and mobile base station equipment rose 27.1% YoY and 16.4% YoY respectively.

For the January to August period, total sales output value for eastern China rose 26.3% YoY to reach RMB 3.59 trln, up 29.7 percentage points from a 3.4% drop in the same period last year. Total sales output value for central China rose 35.1% YoY to RMB 205.6 bln, and total sales output value for western China rose 47.1% YoY to RMB 128.8 bln, with both regions growing faster than the national average by 7.8 and 19.8 percentage points respectively, and growth in Hunan, Guangxi, and Chongqing up more than 60% YoY.
