China Telecom App Store Targets 1 Mln Users by Year-End

During an interview at the P&T/Expo Comm China in Beijing, Wu Jiang, assistant manager for China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) E-Surfing Space App Market, revealed that the app store had reached nearly 500,000 users and aims to reach 1 mln by year-end. Wu added that monthly download volume has reached 800,000 and will soon reach 1 mln, driven by entertainment, games and tools. E-Surfing Space App Market has over 4,200 mobile applications and 12,000 registered developers.

Wu said that in addition to sharing download revenue, China Telecom also pays developers a monthly stipend to provide specific applications, as well as arranging revenue shares for embedded advertising. He added that China Telecom expects to begin charging for downloads in November.
