China Unicom UPhone Handsets Due in December

Gu Minxia, chief of the standards processing office for China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) technology division, revealed today while speaking at the 2010 China Mobile Developer Conference that the company would be releasing its first mobile phone based on the UPhone operating system this December. Currently, a number of manufacturers are cooperating with China Unicom on the launch of the UPhone, including Huawei Technologies, ZTE Corporation (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment, and Inventec among others. The phone will be targeted at both mid- to high-end commercial users as well as mainstream consumers.
