Rumor: CEO's Son to Inherit Huawei

21st Century Business Herald, 10/28/10

The PR department of telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies has issued an official statement denying rumors that CEO and founder Ren Zhengfei would be passing the reigns to his son Ren Ping and forcing out chairman of the board Sun Yafang. The statement, delivered by email, characterized the rumors as malicious slander, and urged the media to stop its spread. The email did not directly address the source of the rumor.

Editor's Note: Caing.com reported that sources close to the matter have revealed that in a routine operations group meeting at the end of the summer, Ren indicated that he wanted his son Ren Ping to be accepted both as a member of the board, and of the operations group, but Sun and other senior-level managers strongly opposed the matter. Ren persisted, and soon afterward, most members of the opposition had either left the company or were forced to take holiday leave.
