Rumor: Tencent to Acquire Jiangmin

Ctocio.com.cn, 11/15/10

Chinese internet firm Tencent (0700.HK) plans to acquire Chinese software developer Jiangmin in order to obtain its own anti-virus engine in its battle with Chinese online security software developer Qihoo 360, according to industry rumor. Tencent previously discussed acquisition possibilities with anti-virus software providers Trend Micro and Conew.

A Tencent representative declined to comment on the rumors.

Du Hongchao, former CEO of Jiangmin, said he had not heard the rumors, but that from an outsiders' perspective it wouldn't be impossible.
