MIIT Announces December 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its December 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:

Telecom operating core revenues were RMB 79.77 bln (USD 12.03 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 898.8 bln (USD 135.57 bln), up 6.4% over the same 12-month period of 2009. Year-to-date capital expenditure came to 319.7 bln (USD 48.22 bln), a 14.2% year-on-year decrease.

Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 4.75 mln in December, with mobile subscribers growing by 8.71 mln to 859 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 3.96 mln to 294.38 mln.

A total of 73.15 bln SMS messages were sent during the month of December, bringing the total for full-year 2010 to 825 bln, a 7% increase over the figure for full-year 2009.

Broadband added 1.45 mln new registered users in December to reach a total of 126.34 mln. In contrast, dial-up lost another 221,000 users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 5.9 mln.
