China Unicom: China's 3G Penetration to Exceed 10% in 2011

Chang Xiaobing, a Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee (CPPCC) representative and chairman of China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), said in an interview yesterday that this year China's 3G user penetration would exceed 10%.

Chen Jinqiao, deputy chief engineer of the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said that 3G coverage would exceed 60% in 2011. He also predicted that China would add approximately 60 mln new 3G users in 2011, and that the total number of 3G users in China would exceed 100 mln.
