China Mobile to Launch TD-LTE Terminal Tender in April

Communications Weekly, 4/25/11

Geng Xuefeng, deputy GM of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) terminal division, revealed at the recent TD-SCDMA/LTE Chip and Terminal Industry Summit in Shanghai that China Mobile plans to begin a tender in April for TD-LTE terminals, as well as two-stage large-scale terminal trials. The first phase, set for May through September this year, will consist primarily of single-mode trials and on upgrading and perfecting functions and stability of single-mode chips in particular. Phase-2, which will last from October through March next year, will introduce requirements for terminals to provide TD-LTE/FD-LTE dual-mode support, and promote backwards compatibility with both 2G and 3G networks.
