Baidu Launches Social Bookmark Button

Sohu IT, 6/08/11

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) today released its Web 2.0 social bookmarking "Baidu Share" button (share.baidu.com).

According to Baidu, website operators can insert "Baidu Share" Javascript code into their website, allowing users to share content from the site to 16 different social networking services, including Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU) Microblog, Renren (NYSE: RENN), Kaixin001, and Tencent's (0700.HK) Qzone SNS.

Baidu said that adding the Baidu Share code makes it easier for websites to be found by Baidu's search engine, and can increase traffic to participating sites. Baidu will also provide website owners with free traffic analytics, such as statistics about what content was shared to which websites and how many times a day an item is shared, making it easier to track, analyze, and further encourage users to share. The data analysis feature will be released shortly.

Editor's Note: Other SNS included on the Baidu Share platform are Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo, Tencent's Pengyou SNS and Tencent Microblog, e-commerce site Taobao's SNS Tao Jianghu, and Google Buzz.
