Rumor: China to Raise LCD Import Duties 5%

Sohu IT, 8/12/11

LG Display (LGD) will reportedly soon resume construction of its 8.5G LCD panel production facility in Guangzhou. An industry source said that a schedule has been finalized and construction, which is expected to take less than 18 months, will begin soon.

The source also revealed that government authorities intend to raise import duties on liquid crystal display panels by 5%, and given that the cost of LCD panels comprises between 70-80% of the cost required to assemble an LCD TV set, the move will likely deal a severe blow to overseas LCD panel manufacturers.
